2.1.2 (April 1, 2010)

The default Active Copy operations (My Music, My Photos, etc) create a folder of the same name below the computer name folder and sync to that location. When you manually add a new sync, if there is a default location, it should append on the same name as the source folder.

2.1.1 (March 23, 2010)

Today we are releasing version 2.1.1 of the drive application that addresses a number of issues found internally and reported by customers:

• Crashes with Active Copy on Windows 7

• In some cases Photoshop files could not be saved to a Pogoplug Enabled Drive

• Remember me does not work in non-admin accounts

Other Changes

We changed Active Copy operations in a way that will affect currently existing operations. Previous to this release, when a folder was selected as an ActiveCopy source a new folder of the same name was created into the destination folder. As of this release, the folder itself will NOT be created in the destination folder; instead, all the files in the source folder (including any subfolders) will be created directly inside the destination folder. This will results in multiple copies of your files being created. The workaround is to delete the directory in your destination folder and stop and start your existing Active Copy operations.

 

2.0.3 (January 19, 2010)

Cloud Engines' new drive app includes a more full-featured preferences window along with the ability to set up Active Copy on folders from your computer to your Pogoplug Enabled Device attached drive. The new Drive Application is available here http://www.pogoplug.com/downloads/. If you already have the Drive Application installed, you should see a yellow exclamation point in the Icon – click on it and you will be able to install the new version automatically. Here’s a rundown of the new features in this version.

Initial Setup – first time use

The first time you start the new Drive Application you will be given the choice to copy from the standard media folders for the Mac (Pictures, Video and Music) and PC (My Pictures, My Video, My Music); these are your default source locations. If you would like to set up a copy from any of these click the checkbox next to the folder. The Drive Application will copy the selected folders to the first available drive on the first local Pogoplug Enabled Device, into a folder that has the same name as your computer.

Changing your Default copy location

The drive application will set a default copy location for you but you can change this in the Active Copy pane of the Pogoplug Drive preferences window. Next to the Default copy to location: there is a link “change location”. Click that and you will be able to change where your data will be copied to.

Creating a custom folder (source location)

You can also choose to add a custom folder (up to 64) as a source location. In the Active Copy pane of the Pogoplug Drive preferences window, click “Add a custom folder” and choose a folder to add. Click ok and that folder will be added to your list. You can remove this copy operation by clicking the “remove” link next to the name of the Click the Start button next to that folder and this source will be copied to the Default copy location until you change it.

Setting destination folders: Custom Location

You can also set a custom location for any source location; each source location can have its own destination if you so choose. To set a custom destination, next to the copy operation, select the link “change location”. This will bring up a dialog showing all the drives attached to all the Pogoplug Enabled Devices in your account, as well as folders that have been shared with you from other users. You can navigate through your library and select the folder to which you would like your data copied.

FAQ

• How many copy operations can I have running at the same time?

  Only one will run at a time, but you can set up a total of 64 copy operations

• I’m getting an error that says “Unable to run Active Copy – you are not on your LAN” what does this mean?

  The Drive application will, by default, not execute a copy operation unless the Pogoplug Enable Device and the CPU are on the same LAN (subnet). On the bottom of the Active Copy pane there is a checkbox “Only run Active Copy when you are on your LAN” uncheck that and you will be able to run copy operations no matter where your computer is in relation to your Pogoplug Enabled Device

• I tried to copy and I’m getting a Copy Failed – why?

  The most common reason is that the Drive application could not reach the drive on the Pogoplug Enabled Device. Click “stop” and check the message. If it says “Copy to folder” Destination is not available, check to make sure the Pogoplug Enabled Device is active (the LED is green), and that your drive is online and can be reached through the drive application. Once you have verified that the drive application can reach the drive, click start again

• How does the drive application know what to copy?

  When you click Start on any copy operation, the drive application will listen to that folder to see if anything has been added or updated. When it detects an updated or added file, it will wait 60 seconds to see if there are any other updates (for example, if you have just moved a number of files into that folder). 60 seconds after the last event the copy operation will start, moving any new files to the destination location and over writing any files with a different size or date

• I want to copy ONLY files that are newer – can I do that?

  In this release an Active Copy will look for files where the time stamp (modified time) is different, not newer. If you were to have a file in your source location that is older, that will get copied to the Pogoplug Enabled Device drive and replace the new file. The ability to have only newer versions of the file copied to the drive app may be an option in an updated version of the drive application.

• I’m still having trouble getting an Active Copy to happen – what should I do now?

• If I delete a file / folder from my computer, will it also be deleted from the destination folder on my Pogoplug Enabled Device?

  No – Active Copy will not delete any files from your Pogoplug Enabled Device at this release. The ability to set an Active Copy to remove files (mirroring the source destination) may be an option in an updated version of the drive application.

• What happens when I put a new HD on my Pogoplug? Do I need to reset my Active Copy?

  Yes you do. The Active Copy knows which directory on which hard drive (or partition) it is supposed to go to, and will not switch to another one unless you specifically change the location. If you remove the drive to which a folder is copying, you will get see the indicator button turn red with the words “Copy Failed”

• What if I don't keep my Videos, Pictures, Music in the standard folders?

  No problem! You can start an Active Copy from any folder you want. On the Active Copy pane of your preferences window click “Set up Active Copy on a new folder” and select the folder where you put your media. A new Active Copy operation will appear in the list – click start and your media will be copied to the location listed.

• Can I delete the pre-installed/shown Active Copy operations from my list?

  You cannot delete the default operations but if you click stop, those operations will never run.

• Bug 1448 - Empty Finder w/ PP drive app and Pathfinder - MacFuse doesn't present itself as a volume in a way that PathFinder can read

Windows users now have the option of "Multidrive mode" in their drive applications. When this checkbox is selected, each Pogoplug enabled drive / partition will show up as a separate drive in Windows Explorer with its own drive letter assigned.

Small behavior change - some file systems will appear to be writing the file before they actually start copying (HFS, HFS J). They are actually just checking for and allocating space, which can take some time. While that happens, if you refresh the explorer window the size of the file will grow (so it might appear that the file is being copied). Once the file reaches its "full size" the copy function actually begins.

Upgrade now! - The Pogoplug Drive application will now allow you to upgrade directly, without having to go through the website. Simply right click on your systray icon when you see the yellow exclamation point, and click Upgrade Now! Note that you may still have to restart your computer before using your Pogoplug Drive application again.

Open P drive upon login. Now when you launch the Pogoplug Drive application it will automatically open up your P Drive in Windows explorer.

Login progress indicator - When you click "Connect" in the login screen of the drive application you will now see an indication that the application is loading - text that says "Connecting" with ellipsis following.

Reload your drive - Right click on your systray icon, and you will see a menu option reload your drive. Clicking this will completely refresh all local knowledge of the filesystem in the even there are any inconsistencies due to OS caching.

Bugs fixed

Better handling for saving and opening of Microsoft office files on Pogoplug drives - in some cases office files could not be saved to disk, or would leave temp files when the application was closed.

The P drive will now accurately report the total size and total space free of all the drives attached to your Pogoplug.

Fixed problems with backup and sync utilities that resulted in a variety of connection / directory not found error messages (reported on Robocopy and Rsync).

Fixed several resource leaks with led to crashes in Vista and XP.
